Do you want to look as young as you feel?

When people look at you, the first thing they see is your face and as you grow older, this will be one of the first areas of your body to show ageing.
As you get older, the skin in your facial area will begin to lose its elasticity and facial features may wrinkle and droop. This process can leave your face looking tired, with wrinkles, hollow cheeks and loose skin in the lower face and neck.
If the ageing process is getting you down and you are unhappy with the way you are looking, then you could consider getting a facelift.

What is a facelift?
A facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic procedure designed to help you achieve a more youthful appearance by reducing saggy skin and wrinkles. It is the most commonly requested procedure by men and women, who want to look as young as they feel.
You can get a facelift to lift your whole face or you can get it to just lift your brow area, lower face or neck. Each procedure will leave you looking more youthful. Not only will a facelift eliminate the early signs of ageing by creating a younger, fresher complexion, it can also give you a new sense of confidence when interacting with others. Because you will look younger, you will feel better about yourself.

Procedure
A facelift usually requires an overnight stay in hospital and is done under general anaesthetic. Because you will be under general anaesthetic, you will have to fast, which means you won't be able to eat or drink six hours before the procedure.
Usually your surgeon will take pictures of your pre-surgery and these pictures will be compared with those taken after surgery so you can identify the difference.
Surgery can last between two and six hours and for the traditional facelift, your surgeon will create an incision along your hairline and around your ears, possibly extending into your scalp. Your surgeon will then lift your skin away from your face, rearrange the underlying tissue in a higher position and will remove excess skin.
After this, your surgeon will the re-drape your skin over your face and will close the incision with stitches. In some cases, a drain may be placed under your skin behind your ears to drain off any excess blood and fluids.

What to expect after the procedure
You can expect to stay in hospital overnight and you will experience pain and discomfort as the anaesthetic wears off. Your face will be wrapped in bandages and may be taken off before you can go home. If drains were placed under your skin, they will also be removed.
It usually takes about two to three weeks to recover from surgery - although this varies between individuals.
After a facelift, most patients are happy with the results because they feel happier and they look younger. The results of a facelift can last up to 10 years and you will achieve the best results if you maintain a stable body weight. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will also help - this includes not smoking, limiting stress and contact with pollutants. Genetics also help with the appearance of skin; so if you have skin with good levels of elasticity, your facelift will look better for longer.
